Our Story
About Citrus MakerSpace
A community workshop where makers, entrepreneurs, and hobbyists come together to create, learn, and share.
Our Mission
To foster learning and creativity through hands-on projects, collaboration, and the sharing of skills and tools.
We see Citrus MakerSpace as a launching pad for new and expanding small businesses. Whether you're an entrepreneur looking to prototype a product, a hobbyist exploring a new craft, or a tinkerer with a weekend project, our space is here for you.
Our Story
CORE (Citrus One Stop Resource & Entrepreneur) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was formed to assist new and relocating businesses in Citrus County to navigate the required permitting, licensing, and regulations that cause small business owners to struggle getting started.
In 2023, CORE received a grant from Duke Energy to study how the organization could best serve the local business community. To their surprise, the consultants recommended that they start a makerspace. CORE's leadership started researching the idea and found that there are over 2,000 makerspaces in the US.
After visiting several such spaces in Florida, CORE began to plan for what is now Citrus MakerSpace. Using private funds and nonprofit grants, we invested in machinery and technology to allow local small businesses, hobbyists, and DIY enthusiasts to learn graphic design and how to apply it to modern technology to "make things."
We have also been blessed to have significant community support through donations of additional equipment and tools. The space now has designated areas for 3D printers, embroidery and sewing, laser engraving and etching, electronics assembly, and a fully equipped woodworking shop.
