Delta DC-380 15" Thickness Planer
Description

The Delta DC-380 is a heavy-duty 15-inch stationary thickness planer built for serious woodworking. Powered by a 2 HP industrial motor with 7 HP peak output and triple belt drive, this planer delivers consistent power through demanding cuts in hardwoods and wide stock. The DC-380 planes boards up to 15 inches wide and 6-1/2 inches thick, with a maximum depth of cut of 1/8 inch per pass. Two selectable feed speeds — 16 feet per minute for fine finishing passes and 30 feet per minute for rapid stock removal — give the operator control over surface quality and throughput. The height adjustment handwheel on the right side raises and lowers the table with precision for dialing in exact thickness. The cutterhead carries three straight high-speed steel (HSS) knives that produce a smooth, uniform surface. Anti-kickback fingers are mounted at the infeed to prevent boards from being thrown back during operation. A dust collection port on the top or rear of the machine connects to the shop dust collection system. The planer is mounted on a Shop Fox mobile base with locking casters, allowing it to be positioned as needed in the shop and locked in place during use.

Specifications
Manufacturer Delta Machinery
Model DC-380 (22-675)
Max planing width: 15 inches (381mm), max thickness capacity: 6-1/2 inches (165mm), max depth of cut per pass: 1/8 inch (5mm), cutterhead: 3-knife straight knife system, knife dimensions: 15" x 1" x 1/8" HSS, two feed speeds: 16 FPM (fine) and 30 FPM (fast), triple belt drive for consistent power transfer, infeed and outfeed rollers for smooth stock feeding, anti-kickback fingers on infeed
2 HP industrial motor (7 HP peak), triple belt drive system, 230V single phase, Start/Stop switch on motor housing, motor is top-mounted with direct belt drive to cutterhead, gearbox drives feed rollers (requires annual oil change with extreme pressure gear oil), designed for continuous heavy-duty operation
15-inch stationary floor-standing planer, mounted on Shop Fox mobile base with locking casters, height adjustment via precision handwheel (right side), cast iron table with adjustable table rollers, dust collection port for connection to shop dust collection system, substantial weight (approx. 300+ lbs assembled), requires 230V dedicated circuit, table should be kept clean and waxed for smooth feeding
Safety glasses required at all times, hearing protection required (over-ear or ear plugs), dust mask or respirator recommended, no gloves (entanglement hazard), no loose clothing or jewelry near the machine, do not plane boards shorter than 12 inches, do not plane stock thinner than 3/8 inch without a sled, maximum depth of cut 1/8 inch per pass — take light passes for best results, never reach into the planer while running, stand to the side of the feed path — not directly in line with the board, allow cutterhead to reach full speed before feeding stock, do not plane plywood, MDF, or composites (dulls knives rapidly), inspect stock for nails, screws, staples, or loose knots before planing, connect dust collection before operating, lock mobile base casters before use

Usage Instructions
  1. Ensure you have completed the required planer certification before use.
  2. Put on safety glasses and hearing protection. A dust mask is recommended.
  3. Lock the Shop Fox mobile base casters so the planer cannot move during operation.
  4. Connect the dust collection hose and turn on the dust collector.
  5. Inspect your workpiece for nails, screws, staples, loose knots, or foreign objects. Remove any debris.
  6. Measure the thickness of your workpiece. Turn the height adjustment handwheel to set the planer slightly above the current board thickness.
  7. Select the feed speed: use 16 FPM for finish passes and 30 FPM for roughing/stock removal.
  8. Press the green START button to turn on the planer. Allow the cutterhead to reach full speed.
  9. Lower the table using the handwheel to set your desired depth of cut. Do not exceed 1/8 inch per pass. Take lighter passes on hardwoods and wide boards.
  10. Feed the board into the infeed side with the grain direction. The feed rollers will grab the board and pull it through. Do not force the board.
  11. Walk around to the outfeed side to receive the board as it exits. Do not pull the board — let the rollers push it through.
  12. Measure the board thickness and repeat passes as needed, lowering the table in small increments.
  13. Feed stock at different positions across the table when possible to help prevent uneven knife wear.
  14. When finished, press the red STOP button. Allow the cutterhead to come to a complete stop.
  15. Disconnect the dust collection hose if needed. Clean chips and dust from the planer table, surrounding area, and floor.
  16. Wipe down the cast iron table with a light coat of paste wax or dry lubricant to prevent rust.
